HAISLA BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
Description
The existing two-lane Haisla Bridge over the Kitimat River is the only crossing over the Kitimat River and connects communities within the District of Kitimat. The existing bridge was constructed in 1954 and is operating at the end of its intended design life.
The Government of Canada has allocated $55 million in funding to the District to cover the capital cost for the construction of a new two-lane bridge adjacent to the existing bridge and for the decommissioning of the existing bridge. It is anticipated that the new bridge will be substantially complete by the end of 2022, depending on receipt of Project permits.
