Electric Trolley Bus Replacement Alternatives

Electric Trolley Bus

The project consisted of reviewing the existing electric trolley bus fleet and preparing a study of alternative traction modes to replace the fleet. This included diesel, natural gas, hybrid, and fuel cell technology. A multiple account evaluation was prepared to compare the different technologies and their socio-economic impacts. The decision was made to replace the existing buses with a modern trolley bus fleet and an assessment was made of carbon offsets as a means of justifying the capital costs of the fleet.

Scope of Services:

  • Provided technical management of teams assessing bus technologies and operational studies,
  • Prepared an analysis and a report on the proposed new replacement fleet and the cost/benefits of purchase.
